Everyone is trying to save money, especially during this time of global financial crisis. However, you can save your pennies by doing a few things everyday that doesn't cost you anything and actually helps you put some money away. You can actually positively influence your savings account, and while it may seem like a challenge to save money you can do it by making a few simple adjustments to the way you live your life. Here are four ways that you can save money each day, and none of them are difficult to do.
Change how you get to work or go shopping.
Between purchasing petrol and maintaining your car, keeping your vehicle in top running condition can be very expensive. Take a look at the length of your commute and see if there is a way to save money when driving your car. Consider car sharing where you only drive on certain days, or even consider taking public transport if it is available and more cost efficient.
Additionally, keep your car maintenance up - oil changes, proper tyre inflation, etc. - as this will help you save money on gas when you fill up your car.
Change your mobile phone from a contract plan to a pay-as-you-go plan.
When your mobile phone contract ends, review the contract to see if the plan is doing what you need for the amount of money you are paying for it each month. If you are not using some of the options that come with your plan, negotiate a lower rate with your mobile phone provider to see if you can get a better rate. If you cannot, then go to a pay-as-you-go plan. You can still get some of the same benefits as you get with your contract plan, and you have better control over how much you are spending on your mobile phone usage. Try not to break your contract half way through the plan, as this can affect your credit rating negatively.
Review your direct debits on a regular basis.
Are you having money directly debited from your account for subscriptions that you are not really using? It's time to take stock of these direct debits and see which ones you want to keep and which ones to get rid of. For example, if you have a satellite television subscription that is direct debited from your account and you are only watching a few channels at a time, consider reducing the package that you are subscribed to and get rid of the items you are not using. This is applicable to all of your direct debit accounts, and you could potentially save hundreds of pounds a year by trimming back.
Bring your lunch to work.
Lunch, snacks, even breakfast can be expensive when you consistently go to a restaurant for your meals. Instead, buy food and drink at the store to pack your lunches and snacks and take it every day. You would be surprised at just how much money you will be able to save and you will be able to better judge what you eat as compared to running to the first fast food place in sight. |
