Saving money today is something everyone all over the world is concerned with, and with the cost of living consistently rising we all need to find ways to save as much as we can simply and without stressing our finances any more than they already are. It's not difficult to start saving money, and here are nine tips to save money that you may not have thought of or thought wasn't worth the effort.
1. Save all of your change. One hundred pennies make a pound, and it is worth keeping them as well as the silver change. Get two jars - one for silver and one for copper - and whenever you come home for the night, separate it and put it in the proper jars. You will be amazed at how fast the change adds up.
2. Start drinking tap water instead of expensive bottled water. Many people do not realise just how expensive bottled water is over time, and the plastic bottles the water is put in contains toxins that are harmful to your health if you reuse the bottles. Remember, our parents and grandparents - and maybe even you - grew up drinking tap water long before water filters and bottle water was ever introduced to the world.
3. Plan on something you'd like to save money for, like a dinner out with friends, and start putting a little away towards that goal. Think about what you are saving the money for and you'll be able to save the money easier.
4. Believe it or not, you can save money by making sure you eat breakfast each morning. You will be less tempted to eat a snack later that is expensive and may not be good for you. Plus, people who eat breakfast are known to be slimmer because they are getting a proper diet.
5. If you need cash, do not pay extra fees to access it. Use an ATM machine that is connected to your bank account to avoid being charged fees from another institution simply because it is convenient. You could pay up to £1.50 extra each time you use an that is not from your bank, and that is on top of what you pay from your own bank.
6. Review your direct debit subscriptions on a regular basis and cancel the ones that you are not using in order to save money. Always talk to the company you have these through to ensure that you are not tied into a contract that could cause you additional charges.
7. In addition to eating breakfast, pack you lunch every day instead of going out or ordering in every day. The money you spend each day on lunch could provide you with lunch for a few weeks when you shop each week for your regular groceries. Purchase lunch and snack items in bulk to save additional cash.
8. Clip coupons to help you save money when you go shopping. Use your coupons wisely however, because sometimes you can save money by purchasing the comparable generic product. Don't use coupons just because you have them.
9. Be a smart shopper, and in addition to buying items that you want, why not consider selling items that you no longer need? You can easily post these items up online on auction sites or even setting up a table at a local rummage sale. |
